For those of you who don’t know, here is a little background on Terra Novas: Terra Novas are state tests that private schools, like mine, have to take for a week. These tests don’t count in your personal average, but are very important to show when you aree applying for a high school! Children from grades 1st-8th grade take the TerraNovas usually for about a week and each day is a different test. Now Terra Novas aren’t like your regular day tests in which you have to memorize and learn information on a certain topic. No, Terra Novas are based on your prior knowledge and how well your abilities are to take a test that digs into everything you have basically learned in your entire life. My view on Terra Novas:
1. It could be a way for other people to judge you. I am saying this because one of my friends got a bad score in the TerraNovas , so everyone started acting as if that person was really dumb, which is not fair at all.
2. It can make your parents really mad at you. Let’s just say you are an A+ student in Math, but then on your Terra Nova you get let’s just say an 85, your parents start making you feel frustrated like you are the world’s most worst mathematician. I mean I know that an 85 might be a bad grade, but what happened to all the other grades in 90, do you just focus on that? Anyway then that person who I knew had that her behavior changed, and got more frustrated during math time.
3. It could be very pressurizing, and that is from my experience. I mean sitting in pin- drop silence, clock ticking away, flushed cheeks, and the smell of fear in the room. It is just too much. I know that you are a taking a large test, but seriously don’t make the atmosphere like that! So yeah those are the cons of test taking.
1. Applying what you learned well show you how much you know, and how much you need to work on. For example, if you are learning fractions, and you know everything except dividing fractions, then that is what you need to work on.
2. Learning important skills like time management, pressure, and neatness. These could be very important skills that you are learning, sort of like a blessing in disguise.
I don’t feel that the Terra Nova represent me as a student because I might have not learnt something in school, but it could be on the test. Or I might have learned something outside of school, but that doesn’t show how I am in school. I don’t think that this measures my accuracy because I might know the answer, but got confused in the directions. But I have to admit, Terra Nova will help me in the future- I will be experienced in taking quizzes or tests in a certain amount of time, which could help in older grades. And I will also be trained in performing under lot of pressure.
